Just an hour north east of Johannesburg and half an hour from Pretoria lies the Kevin Richardson Foundation Reserve. Nestled between the Bobbejaansberge and straddling the Boekenhoutspruit, the reserve forms part of the Dinokeng Game Reserve, and is the home of the ‘Kevin Richardson Wildlife Sanctuary’.
The sanctuary is home to lions (as well as leopard and hyena) rescued from captive-breeding and cub-petting facilities. Enjoy a guided tour of the sanctuary while learning about the challenges facing lions today and the work we are doing here at the Kevin Richardson Foundation.
A guide will drive you between the sanctuary enclosures on a game viewer with no more than ten guests, giving you a chance to take photographs and ask questions.
This tour is suitable for people with children and those that prefer not to walk to far.
Booking is by appointment only

The best!!!! Thank you again. - Thea
Fabulous experience! I took guests to the sanctuary as a guide. We were received very well, had a fantastic guide and received ample information. As someone who has worked in the industry before, this is truly an ethical and reliable project that needs support from guests and the public. It was evident that the guide is very well informed on what is done at the sanctuary and they have a strong transparency attitude. Myself and my guests were very impressed and I will definitely be back with more visitors. - Nina
Absolutely amazing .... been before and learn every time ... Our New Zealand Visitors loved every minute of it and took home some vital information to spread the news - Kim
It was an amazing experience! The staff was very well trained, friendly and you could sense their passion for the animals. Thank you for giving these animals a second chance and also help us learn more about them! We were late and appreciate that you waited for us at the entrance. We didn't however receive a code for the gate to be able to enter, and was very worried that we wouldn't be able to get in on time. It would have been helpfull if there had been a contact number or way of contacting you to open the gate for us. Luckily one of the Jeep's were on their way out, so they opened for us to get in. - Lynette
FANTASTIC day out special memories made! Such an amazing experience to be so close to such magnificent animals and hear their stories from their VERY patient care takers. Should be on everyone's bucket list to visit this Sanctuary at least once. Think they all need a comfy bed and blanket in their little houses though. - Amanda
